Katherine is an artist, designer, and landscape architecture student at Cornell University. She focuses on designs that provoke questions about the relationship between humans and nature, promote human-landscape interaction, elicit powerful emotions, and are self-maintaining through their use of local and native plants.
Previously she studied Studio Art and Sustainable Landscape Horticulture at the University of Vermont. There she learned to manipulate shapes, forms, and colors in an aesthetic and meaningful way, initially on canvas and later through three dimensional forms. Drawing on this experience she designed residential landscapes in Vermont that focused on the use of local and native plants. Through this work she has amassed an impressive knowledge of native plants of New England, their site appropriateness and care, which she hopes to bring to the urban environment.
