This project is the final development of our landfill design. Asked to speculate what will come of our site 500 years from the close of the landfill, I hypothesized that the monumental mound would slump, spread, and sink, morphing with the surrounding lake and vegetation. Ideally, a time span of 500 years would result in little to no gases and leachate, with a sole by-product of a minor toxic core of trash, while the surrounding membrane only enhances in bio-diversity. I predict laws will still be in place to preserve wetlands, in turn protecting this site from development while the local population increases ten fold due to upstate new york’s prime climatic conditions (consistent rain and inland away from the damage of rises in sea level).
